Decarbonising Our Cities

How the Green Finance Institute is developing innovative investment models to advance urban decarbonisation.

Nature-related Financial Risk

The UK is among the most nature-depleted countries, and a new analysis highlights the severe economic risks this poses. Environmental degradation could lead to a shock equivalent to 12% of GDP, impacting jobs, food prices, and investment, with potential long-term effects surpassing the global financial crisis and COVID-19.

The Green Finance Institute emphasises the need for businesses to assess their nature-related risks and dependencies to mitigate these impacts. The Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) provides a framework for this process.

We face two paths: continue with business as usual or invest in nature. Choosing the latter will lead to healthier businesses, improved well-being, food and water security, and sustained economic prosperity.
